LaGrange Symphony set to perform Dead Symphony no. 6 October 5, 2010
Tickets: http://www.lagrangesymphony.org/55.html
Dead Symphony no. 6 went on an unexpected journey after its 2008 world premiere in Baltimore. The score got some road dust, the parts got more markings and the corners of the pages were getting the familiar curls and creases of a composition that has experienced some life changing downbeats.
After the incredible performance in Santa Cruz, CA lead by the great interpreter of contemporary music, Marin Alsop, I decided to take the symphony in from the road and give it one last haircut before I considered it to be publishable.
The Dead Symphony no. 6 that will be performed this October 2010 in my hometown of LaGrange, Georgia will be my final version of the work and the one that I can release from my head and heart. The original recorded version of the score will be kept in the special collections section of the Frank and Laura Lewis Library of LaGrange College and will not be performed again.
Though this piece has helped me make some incredible new friends and has given me stories and experiences that I am blessed to call my own I have chosen to premiere this concert version of the score with the friends that have helped me to become the musician that I am on a daily basis.
The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of maestro and friend Patricio Cobos, will perform the work for this final premiere. After which it will resume its meandering musical journey all the while acquiring new road dust from here and there.
Don’t look for me in the audience. I will be in the cello section.
Peace,
Lee Johnson
